Paleontological Station of the Fardes River Valley
The Valle del río Fardes Paleontological Station is a field infrastructure belonging to the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME), which integrates Research, Outreach and Teaching activities around the Fonelas P-1 site of large mammals from the early Pleistocene. The first phase of this station, the Fonelas P-1 Paleontological Center, was built in 2013 to safeguard the paleontological heritage housed at this site, as well as to facilitate research and outreach activities in the field.
We contributed to the design of the Paleontological Center. First and foremost, this includes life-size figures of megafauna that once inhabited this region: Etruscan wolf, Croizetoceros, Equus (Allohippus) stenonis, Gazellospira, Homotherium latidens, Southern mammoth, Megantereon, Meles iberica, Metacervoceros, Mitilanotherium, Pachycrocuta, Potamochoerus, and the Etruscan rhinoceros.
In addition to life-size figures, our photo reconstructions were used in the design of the main pavilion facade, informational stands, promotional materials, and the website.
