Order: Perissodactyla
Family: Equidae
Tribe: †Hipparionini
Dimensions: length - 2 m, height - 120-140 сm, weight ~ 130-200 kg

A typical representative: H. primigenius (von Meyer, 1829)
The type species, Hippotherium primigenium in Europe is traditionally regarded as the earliest and most primitive extinct genus of three-toed hipparion species in Eurasia. It was a generalist feeder which frequently browsed but could also exploit grasses.
The species H. koenigswaldi and H. catalaunicum have been found in Miocene deposits in Spain. The Asian hipparionin "Hipparion" weihoense from early Late Miocene deposits in northern China has also been referred to the genus. The last known surviving Hippotherium was H. malpassii, found in Italy.
