Parictis is possibly the earliest genus of  the family Ursidae, belongs to the Amphicynodontinae subfamily. Parictis first appeared in North America in the Late Eocene, it wasn't until the Miocene, that it appeared in Eurasia and Africa. They were small predators still having many mustelid and doglike features with skulls roughly 7 cm long. Variety of morphological evidence links amphicynodontines with pinnipeds.
